These 15 Connecticut companies are on the Fortune 500

Responding to a recent jab from New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, who took aim at Connecticut’s lackluster economic growth, a spokeswoman for Gov. Ned Lamont pointed out how many Fortune 500 companies are headquartered here compared to the Granite State.

“CT has 16 and NH has 0,” tweeted Colleen Flanagan Johnson, a senior adviser to the governor.

Well this year’s Fortune list has since come out, and 15 Connecticut companies have officially made the cut. That’s down from 17 a year ago. New Hampshire still has none.

So what Connecticut companies fell off the list this year? Eversource Energy remained a Fortune 500 company (No. 358) but this year’s list puts the company’s headquarters in Springfield. Last year the company reported dual headquarters in Hartford and Boston.

The other company missing from last year is Praxair, an industrial gas company headquartered in Danbury. It was acquired in 2018 by Linde plc, a multinational chemical company based in the United Kingdom.

Here are the 15 Connecticut companies that made the 2019 Fortune 500. Employee counts are worldwide. The companies, and the Fortune list, are ranked according to total revenue.
