Here’s a list of which businesses are hiring right now in Connecticut amid the coronavirus pandemic

Over 350,000 have filed for unemployment in Connecticut in the past month, and while some industries and businesses are struggling to keep workers employed, others are looking for help.

Here’s a list of which major businesses are hiring in Connecticut right now.

Insurance

Travelers: Travelers is looking to recruit 800 new employees, with about 500 full-time positions open in technology alone. There are opportunities for both recent graduates and experienced workers in the Hartford region. Retail

Ace Hardware: The home improvement chain is looking to hire 30,000 employees across its 4,300 stores nationwide. There are 20 Ace Hardware locations in Connecticut. The positions are in both retail and distribution.

Winterberry Landscape & Garden Center: The family-owned business in Southington is hiring field crew workers and is holding a virtual job fair April 28. A total of 30 jobs are available and interested candidates can contact Chelsea Cowles at ccowles@winterberrygarden.com.

Amazon: Amazon announced last month it was looking to hire 100,000 new employees, and has since reached that goal. It announced on April 13 it would hire another 75,000 nationwide.

The company will commit an additional $350 million to raising employees’ wages during the pandemic, too. In the Hartford area, Amazon is hiring drivers and warehouse associates, among other positions.

CVS: CVS announced last month it was looking to hire 50,000 in response to the pandemic. The company has since hired 380 in Connecticut, a spokesperson said. Overall, 44,000 have been hired or are in the hiring process nationwide, and a total of 900,000 have applied. Jobs available in Connecticut include pharmacy technician, retail store associate, customer care concierge, among others.

Walgreens: Walgreens announced last month it was looking to hire 9,500 employees nationwide, and per its website, is hiring in the Hartford area, including store associates and pharmacists.

Lowes: The company announced it is hiring 30,000 employees nationwide to meet a heightened demand. On its job posting page, Lowes lists over 100 available jobs in Connecticut including seasonal receiver, cashier and sales associate.

Delivery services

DoorDash: DoorDash, a mobile food delivery service, is hiring drivers, and prioritizing those in the restaurant industry who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 related circumstances. DoorDash has posted jobs in the Hartford area on Indeed.

Instacart: Instacart, a service which provides at-home grocery delivery, announced in March it would hire 300,000 full-time contractors in North America to meet the rising demand, as well as 14 days of extended pay to any full-service or in-store shopper who is diagnosed with COVID-19, or forced to quarantine or self-isolate.

InstaCart has posted jobs in the Hartford area on Indeed.

FedEx and UPS

Both FedEx and UPS have seen a spike in deliveries nationwide, and have looked to hire. FedEx is hiring package handlers, maintenance techs, warehouse works and others. UPS is hiring warehouse workers, drivers, supervisors and package handlers.

USPS: The U.S. Postal Service also has a handful of jobs available in Connecticut, including handler assistants and distribution associates.

Online education

With school now happening at home, there is a significant uptick in hiring for online tutors.

OutSchool: OutSchool is paying up to $40 an hour taught, Last month, it announced it was looking to hire 5,000 tutors to meet a heightened demand.

Varsity Tutors: Varsity Tutors is looking for 10,000 tutors to teach from home, while teaching a “virtual school day” online.

Food and grocery

Dollar stores: Dollar Tree and Dollar General discount stores announced nationwide hiring, with Dollar Tree looking to hire 25,000 employees. Dollar Tree is hiring cashiers, stockers, warehouse associates and full- and part-time management positions. Several Dollar Generals in the Hartford area are hiring managers and sale associates.

Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Papa Johns: Several of the country’s largest pizza chains are hiring, including Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Papa Johns. Domino’s is looking to hire pizza delivery drivers, cooks and truck drivers. Pizza Hut announced it was looking to hire 30,000 employees, while Papa Johns is looking to hire 20,000.

7/11: 7/11 announced last month that it was hiring 20,000 workers nationwide. Like grocery stores, convenience stores have also seen a boost in demand.

WholeFoods, Aldi and other grocery stores: Grocery stores nationwide have seen a spike in demand, and Hartford is no different. WholeFoods is hiring 5,000 workers nationally, starting at $15 an hour, and has posted jobs in the Hartford area on Indeed. So has Aldi, which has posted a variety of jobs, including stockers, store and warehouse associates, managerial positions and seasonal store employees.

BJ’s Wholesale Club has posted on Indeed, looking for seasonal employees and stockers in the Hartford area.

Walmart: Walmart announced it was looking to hire 150,000 employees nationwide, and, per its website, is hiring cashiers and sales associates in the Hartford area.

Banks

Webster Bank: Webster has a number of open positions around the state as they deal with an influx of business. Jobs include sales and service banker, loan originators and reviewers, among others.

Liberty Bank: Liberty has several open positions in Connecticut, including customer service consultants and a commercial loan administrator.
