10 Connecticut beer festivals to hit this spring

Spring is here, and we’ll drink to that. As the weather gets warmer, more local beer festivals start to appear on the calendar. Here are 10 events happening around Connecticut, from now through May.

April 7: Greenhouse Beer Festival

MiKro and Michael’s Greenhouses team up for the annual beer fest at the Cheshire venue at 300 South Meriden Road, starting at 1 p.m. The event features beer tastings, live bluegrass music and food for purchase from Wolfski’s Pierogi Truck, Caseus Cheese Truck and Sobo Brothers BBQ. $60 for general admission; $30 for designated drivers. Proceeds benefit the Smilow Cancer Hospital “Closer to Free” ride. Information and tickets: mikrodepot.com.

April 13: Beer & Bacon Brewfest

City Steam Brewery (942 Main St., Hartford) hosts the event from 1 to 4 p.m., including unlimited samples from more than 20 craft breweries, a beer-inspired bacon themed buffet, live music, door prizes and giveaways. Guests will vote for a favorite flagship beer, with the winning brewery to receive a guest tap in the restaurant. Tickets are $38; a portion of proceeds will be donated to Hartford’s Riverfront Recapture. Tickets are available on Eventbrite. April 20: Smokin’ Hops Brewfest

Bear’s Restaurant Group presents the festival at the Great Hall at Union Station (1 Union Place, Hartford) starting at 6 p.m. The event features tastings from a dozen local breweries (including an exclusive small batch beer brewed for the festival by Alvarium Beer Co. of New Britain); live music and food provided by the restaurant group (food tickets at additional cost.) General admission tickets are $42 (plus fees), available on Eventbrite, and $20 for designated drivers. A portion of proceeds will benefit Hartford’s KNOX, Inc.

April 27: Suds & Curds Brewfest

Oxford’s Black Hog Brewing hosts the beer and cheese pairing festival, featuring a selection of brewers and dairies. General admission tickets are $60 and include two-ounce beer and cheese samples. VIP tickets, including an exclusive tour and tasting with master brewer Tyler Jones and cheese pairing master class with Jason Sobocinski, are $80. A designated driver ticket is $35 and includes cheese samples. The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are available on beerfests.com.

April 28: Thread City Hop Fest

The annual festival returns to Jillson Square in Willimantic from 1 to 5 p.m., featuring craft beer tastings from more than 45 breweries, live music and fare from local food trucks and vendors. The event is a fundraiser for The No Freeze Project, Willimantic Renaissance, Inc., Vulturetown Arts, Windham Area Interfaith Ministry, Covenant Soup Kitchen, Horizons, and the Mill Museum. May 4: Hockanum Brew Fest

The beer fest at the New England Motorcycle Museum in Vernon (200 W. Main St.) starts at 1 p.m., with tastings of a variety of craft beers and food trucks. Tickets are $40; designated driver tickets are $20. hockanumbrewfest.com.

May 10: Brewfest at the Beach

The Rotary Club of New London presents the annual spring beer festival at Ocean Beach Park, starting at 6 p.m. The event features tastings of more than 150 beers, brew-friendly food, pizza, chili, wine tasting and live music. $25; proceeds benefit Camp Rotary, a nonprofit camp for New London students. newlondonrotary.org.

May 11: Rising Pint Brewfest

The annual event returns to East Hartford’s Rentschler Field, featuring tastings of craft beer from dozens of breweries, live music and eats from local restaurants and food trucks. Proceeds from the event will go to Our Companions Animal Rescue and Folds of Honor Foundation.

Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 the day of the 21-plus event, and include free parking, admission and commemorative tasting cup. Food is extra. $20 designated driver tickets available at the gate. The festival starts at 1 p.m. Information and tickets: risingpint.com.

May 11: Harmonies and Hops

This beer festival in Danielson coincides with the Killingly Spring Fest, with craft beer tastings from Connecticut and New England breweries, food, live music and a cornhole tournament. Event starts at 1 p.m. General admission is $35. Tickets and information: beerfests.com.

May 18: Gathering of the Bines

Two Roads Brewing Company (1700 Stratford Ave., Stratford) hosts this annual festival, with tastings of beer from more than 45 breweries and a hub of local food trucks. A general admission session runs from noon to 3 p.m. , with a special additional session from 3 to 4 p.m. for VIP ticketholders only. $35 for general admission. $45 for VIP and $15 for designated drivers. 203-335-2010, tworoadsbrewing.com.
