House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will visit Hartford next month to give the keynote speech at Connecticut Democrats’ annual fundraising dinner.
The newly renamed John Bailey Dinner will be held June 21 at the Connecticut Convention Center. Nancy DiNardo, the former state Democratic chairwoman, will be honored.
“It will be a night of Nancys,” said a third Nancy, former Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, who is the current state Democratic chairman. “We are thrilled that the speaker will be attending and proud to be honoring a former leader of the state party who has done so much for Connecticut Democrats.”
Tickets start at $200. For $1,000 attendees will be admitted to a VIP reception with Pelosi. There’s an additional cost to sit at the same table as a member of Connecticut’s congressional delegation.
It’s not surprising Pelosi is visiting the state. Reps. John Larson and Rosa DeLauro are among her close allies in Congress. She has made several trips to Connecticut for fundraisers and an annual bocce ball tournament hosted by Larson, who was previously in House leadership.
The John Bailey Dinner, named after a former Democratic state chairman, was long called the Jefferson, Jackson, Bailey Dinner. The party announced in 2015 it was dropping the names of the two slave-owning presidents from the event. For the past several years it was referred to as the Connecticut Democratic Progress Dinner.
